RAPid Note Reading Bundle
Violinists, get ready to have SOOOO MUCH FUN learning to read music!! This bundle is designed to get students learning and laughing. It’s full of things students love to do - playing games, playing duets and also something they didn't even know they are going to love to do - rap! ;)
This first bundle in the series will teach all of the notes of the finger pattern that students learn first (the one that has fingers 2&3 close). It will also cover the finger numbers of the note, the letter name of the note, and playing the note - all of which are important for theory knowledge and musical development.
These notes are divided up into twelve levels so violin students are learning and consolidating only four or five notes at a time. There are flash cards (with answers on the back for parents and practice partners to be able to help with no existing knowledge) with a score board for students to beat their previous times to eventually say or play twenty notes in under a minute. The flash cards are either separated into levels, or separated by notes. There are also QR codes to play these levels with the brilliant Note Rush app (shared with permission). You can also use these flash cards to play games like Memory, Snap, Go Fish, etc.
For every level there are fingerboard charts to show the notes on the fingerboard. There are also raps that explain the basic theory needed to understand note reading, and get students laughing and having fun - trust me, pop on a drum beat from YouTube or Garage Band and away you go! Students will be BEGGING to learn to read music!
There are also 53 duets to well known folk songs that have been arranged to consolidate the notes in each of the first five levels, adding one note at a time. For example, level one has duets with only open strings, level two has duets with open strings and first fingers, etc. These duets correspond to the beginning folk songs in the Suzuki Violin Method. Students can play these arrangements with a teacher, the recording or other students in group class. However, if the violinist isn’t using the Suzuki method this book is still a wonderful resource and the student can play harmonies to these lovely well known melodies with a teacher or classmate. These duets have been arranged to specifically focus ONLY on reading the note, and therefore they have been intentionally written with minims (half notes) exclusively.
So, what are you waiting for? Get ready to have an absolute blast learning to read music!
*Please note - every level has at least 7 folk song duets arranged to consolidate playing those notes. Those folk songs are in the public domain. However, the articulation, dynamics, bowing and fingering are not included due to copyright reasons. Also, in some levels it includes four pieces included in Suzuki Method Volume 1 written by Shinichi Suzuki - Allegro, Perpetual Motion, Andantino and Allegretto. As these pieces are not in the public domain I’m unable to share the melodies for these for teachers to play along with.
